COVID-19 is a disease.

Before starting anything we must know what COVID-19 is? COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) is a new disease that is caused by a new virus called SARS-CoV-2 virus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 virus).

We have a whole family of Corona viruses and we do not usually give them special names because they only often cause common cold. In this case the virus (SARS-COV-2) is not causing common cold but a very life threatening condition called ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome).

According to the CDC the virus has its origin in bats suggesting that it first spread from an animal to a human and then it spread through human to human contact. This means that the virus is community spread, and it is hard to know how or where a person became infected.

This disease has become a pandemic, meaning it has spread globally because there is little to no pre-existing immunity against the new virus.

Is COVID-19 caused by bacteria?

No it is not caused by a bacteria, as clearly stated above, SARS-COV-2 is the virus that causes COVID-19. Viruses are submicroscopic organisms that can only replicate within a living organism’s cells because they lack the capacity to capture or store energy themselves.

Simply stated a virus is a microscopic parasite that lacks the capacity to thrive and reproduce outside a living cell.

Viruses can infect almost all types of life forms on Earth, from animals to plants to other microorganisms. COVID-19 is a zoonotic disease, because the virus that causes it jumped from an animal(s) to humans.
